History

Dumas was established in 1994 by Mr. Daniel Dumas in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. The French-Canadian family name pays homage to the company’s roots as a small underground mining contractor.

Over the years, Mr. Dumas has lead the business to effectively leverage its cost position and ability to manage complex and logistically challenging projects to win contracts with a broad range of large, medium and small sized clients. Dumas rode the wave of the commodity boom to position as one of Canada’s leading underground mining contractors. In 2008, Pala Investments acquired the controlling share in Dumas, establishing an effective corporate partnership focused on medium and long term growth.

Since 1994, Dumas has grown from a business of just five employees based in Timmins to as many as 1,200 across Canada and a growing team within Peru and Mexico. Dumas is positioning for the next phase of growth by bolstering its senior management capability and embarking on its international expansion plans making it one of Canada’s great business success stories.
