Dumas Achieves Safety Milestone at Xstrata Copper's Kidd Mine

TIMMINS, ONTARIO, 17 August 2010 – Dumas Contracting Ltd. (“Dumas”) has achieved a significant safety milestone at Xstrata Copper’s Kidd Mine in Ontario, Canada.

July 2010 marked four years and 1.5 million man-hours worked with no Lost Time Injuries (LTI) at the Kidd Mine Project.

Benchmarking Dumas’ achievement against industry performance across the Province, the Ontario mining sector recorded a LTI frequency rate of .6 in 2009. This represents 47 LTI for every 15.5 million man-hours worked.

Mr. Tom Semadeni, General Manager of the Xstrata Copper Kidd Mine congratulated the Dumas Kidd Mine Team on their achievement.

“I am pleased to recognize the achievement of the Dumas Kidd Mine Team which is an important contribution to the ongoing safety and success of Xstrata Copper’s Kidd Mine.”

More than 200 Dumas employees work onsite at Xstrata Copper’s Kidd Mine. Since 2003, Dumas employees have provided a range of services, including mine development, mine construction, mine services installations and engineering services at the Kidd Mine Project.

Mr. Daniel Dumas, Dumas President and Chief Executive Officer attributed the achievement to the commitment of Dumas’ highly-skilled workforce.

“Dumas maintains a comprehensive Safety Management Program that ensures continuous improvement and fully supports the mining industry’s ultimate goal of Zero Harm.” Said Mr. Dumas.

Dumas was recently awarded the 2010 Worker Safety Innovation Award by the Ontario Mine Contractors Safety Association for its shaft sinking Crosshead Design at Lake Shore Gold Corp’s Timmins Mine. This shaft was also completed without a LTI.
